Following the assassination of Charlie Kirk on September 10, 2025, faculty at Virginia Tech made public comments about Kirk’s death. Members of the public then called on Virginia Tech University to punish the faculty. On September 19, ÃÛÖÏãÌÒ wrote Virginia Tech, explaining that the First Amendment protects speech that others might find offensive, poorly timed, tasteless, inappropriate, hateful, or otherwise controversial.
