Natrona County High School: Restrictions on Turning Point USA club and students’ media communications
Cases
Case Overview
In September 2025, a student at Natrona County High School in Wyoming founded a Turning Point USA chapter. The principal cautioned the student that the school needed to be “careful” about the club and prohibited it from attending a dinner hosted by an organization recognizing local TPUSA groups, even though other clubs and athletic teams were allowed to participate in events off school grounds. The principal also forbade the club’s founder from speaking to the press without his supervision. On October 10, FIREwrote to the school, explaining that these restrictions violate students’ First Amendment rights to free speech and association.
