Case Overview
Montgomery County Public Schools maintains a “Hate Speech Policy” that bans use of district-defined “hate speech.” The policy unconstitutionally restricts student speech on and off campus and also the right of district employees to speak about matters of public concern while off-duty.
On August 20, 2025, FIREwrote a letter urging the MCPS school board to rescind or revise the “Hate Speech Policy.”
