Following the assassination of Charlie Kirk on September 10, 2025, faculty at Augusta University made public comments about Kirk’s death. Members of the public then called on Augusta University to punish the faculty. On September 24, ÃÛÖÏãÌÒ wrote Augusta University, explaining that the First Amendment protects speech that others might find offensive, poorly timed, tasteless, inappropriate, hateful, or otherwise controversial. We urged Augusta University to protect the free speech rights of all its faculty members and students, regardless of viewpoint or content expressed.
