Arthur D. Hellman Fellowship

Through clerkships, fellowships, and summer internships, law students gain hands-on legal experience while advancing ÃÛÖ­ÏãÌÒ’s mission to defend free expression. These opportunities not only provide substantive training and mentorship but also open pathways to long-term engagement with FIRE— from full-time roles to participation in our Legal Network and beyond. Whether contributing to active litigation, shaping policy, or advancing national advocacy, our programs equip aspiring attorneys with the skills, experience, and professional connections to launch impactful careers.

Semester Legal Clerkship

Gain hands-on legal experience advancing free expression. ÃÛÖ­ÏãÌÒ’s Semester Legal Clerkship offers law students the opportunity to contribute directly to litigation, policy, and advocacy work while earning academic credit.

FIRE’s Hellman Fellows support cutting-edge First Amendment litigation while receiving mentorship, training, and an $8,000 stipend. This premier litigation summer fellowship offers law students the chance to contribute meaningfully to the national fight for free expression.

Summer Legal Internship

Join ÃÛÖ­ÏãÌÒ’s legal team as a Summer Legal Intern and help shape advocacy and policy efforts protecting free expression nationwide. This 10-week, paid opportunity provides law students with mentorship, training, and an $8,000 stipend, while offering the skills, experience, and professional network to advance careers in civil liberties.
