‘That Is Insanity’
Columnist Jeffrey Page of the Bergen (N.J.) Record on the treatment of William Paterson University (WPU) student and employee Jihad Daniel, who made the “mistake” of expressing a religious opinion over e-mail to the wrong person and found himself accused of discrimination and harassment (֭’s full coverage of this scandal is here). Page makes the unconventional choice (for a newspaper columnist) of letting someone else have the last word—and it’s very effective. The last paragraph of his column:
Here is the eloquent Mr. Jihad Daniel in his failed appeal to [WPU President] Speert: “People disagree with my ideas and I never, by any stretch of the imagination, said, ‘Oh they don’t agree with me so they must be a threat.’ That is insanity.”
It sure is.
